My priority is to make sure you get exactly what you, the individual, needs.
In your first visit, expect to be at the clinic for up to an hour and a half. I pride myself on my detective work, and my clear detailed explanations. I provide a printout of the dialogue we had in our visit, including my thought process as I work my way through your health concerns.
The initial visit is $140. Follow-up visits are $60 for 30 min, $85 for 45 min, $100 for an hour.
I may encourage you to order blood work. OHIP does not cover blood work ordered by an ND, but many health care plans do. Ultimately, it will be up to you what you choose to order. It’s nice to have the freedom to choose, isn’t it? The cost of blood work could range between $30 and $450, depending on what's being ordered.
Just because a supplement is ‘natural’ doesn’t mean it can’t cause trouble. I take a close look at your medications and supplements to make sure they’re not interacting with one another, or causing you adverse effects. With anything I recommend, I make sure it does not interact with the medications you’re taking. It’s important that your health care team work together according to your best interest.
Everybody needs their ears & lymph nodes checked once in a while. Blood pressure too….sometimes it’s too low when we’re worried about it getting too high.
I’m trained to perform a physical exam
This is Nick by the way. You can find my adorable market-gardener husband on Facebook at 'Nicks Picks Organics" and at Old 99 Farm in Dundas.
The nutritional value of our food supply has changed over the years. I’ll admit, there are nutrient deficiencies that I commonly see. Though there are not clinically reliable lab tests for every nutrient, there are telltale symptoms.
There are also various diets that will work for various body types. We’re all wired a little differently, and we definitely have our own eating habits, positive and negative. After 11 years of practice it still surprises me how unique diet & nutrition really is to each body.
I see a lot of value in doing hands on work. I work on the stomach & intestines, the lymphatic system, the lungs, the reproductive organs, and of course the muscles and joints of the body.
I start by helping you release flexion in certain parts of your body. Then I gently stretch and move your body around in a sequential way. Then, if you’re up for it, I use cupping, acupuncture or both, to really get the healing process going.
I’m a believer in the power of self reliance, so my goal with these treatments is to get you managing your own condition as much as you possibly can.
You’ll learn practical and time-efficient techniques to do at home, that won’t require a ton of energy and will-power. They work well with physiotherapy recommendations.
Let me know what you're doing with your physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopath, and RMT so that I can compliment what they're doing and create a synergistic effect.
Myofascial Release Acupuncture is known best as dry needling. It requires me to focus intently on the muscle, working with it in a non-forceful way. It works best when your muscles & I have established a rapport. Muscles really do have minds of their own.
I’m also trained in the basics of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, so if you’d like to harness the power of Asian Medicine, we can do that too. I find this style particularly helpful for fertility and menstrual issues.
When we’ve experienced trauma, the body has unique needs. Average approaches may not work very well…or may backfire.
I had to learn from my patients how to properly treat a traumatized body. I don’t have words to express my gratitude to these people, who worked closely with me, teaching me how to treat them, and future patients.
Cupping is used to treat pain, lymphatic flow, constipation, menstrual cramps and venous insufficiency (bad circulation). It produces suction by displacing air from a silicone cup. It works mainly to smooth out the fascia of the body, which can cause circulation problems.
By doing this, it opens up the space around our blood vessels, lymph nodes, organs, muscles, and joints. In other words, it helps me to re-position your body parts so they stop causing you problems.
If you’ve heard of “fire cupping”, don’t be alarmed. Neither heat nor fire are involved in my treatments. Just some grapeseed oil and, if you like, peppermint or eucalyptus.
On the “My Story” page you’ll read about how I had to learn to take charge of my own nervous system. It’s hard to explain in words, which is probably why I do so much nervous system training with my patients.
First, I help you understand the language of your nervous system, and the reasons it behaves the way it does.
Next, I help you get good at visualizing. Visualizations are the most effective way to “speak” to the nervous system, which resides in the subconscious mind.
Next, I teach you skills to take charge of your nervous system instead of it being in charge of you.
Then, I provide you with as much time as you choose to practice these skills under my guidance.
You can carry these skills with you throughout life.
